Funk Rap Project
This music project was an endeavour by Wreck Beach alumni Dave Urquhart (aka Ten-Forward Dave), Tony Bosley, Alonzo Munoz-Wang and Chris (Last Name?*) the harp player/samosa vendor (aka Spud), back in 1999 - 2000. These are all original songs written by Dave, Tony and Alonzo, with input from Chris. The project ended due to lack of funding, so unfortunately it was never taken to fruition (ie; no CD was ever produced). Only these 12 songs were recorded, and although there are a lot of rough edges and things that need to be remixed, a lot of the music has an interesting and compelling quality to it, with some very catchy hooks. It seemed wrong just to leave it "in the can" forever, especially after all that effort, so we finally decided to post it online, for what it's worth. It's a nostalgic (and slightly humorous) look back at a very special time, and a great memoir for all Wreck Beach alumni.
Everything was recorded and produced at Tony's studio at Hastings & Carrall in Gastown, using Apple Logic software. All keyboards and bass are played by Tony, who also did all the drum/percussion programming. Guitars are played by both Tony and Alonzo. All raps are by Dave and all lead vocals are by Dave and Alonzo. Backup vocals are Dave, Alonzo and Chris, and beach gal Helen Ziolkoski, and of course all harmonica playing is by Chris. Some anonymous female vocal samples were used as well.
If you have any questions, comments or scathing critiques, or if you happen to remember Chris's last name (if you weren't too fried at the time), please contact us at info@urbansoundscapes.com
